Overall, every season offers its charms and beauty. Pet owners are friendly and always enjoy a nice chat! We are fortunate to have this conservation land locally. Treat it with kindness and respect. See you there!
There needs to be more signage as seen in wilderness areas such as "Pack it in, Pack IT OUT!" Less signage about dogs and their leashes and, rather, add professionally produced signage, as opposed to a printed piece of paper from a home computer that wrinkles and fads in the the elements. Briefly indicate unsafe water quality, clean up ALL your fishing paraphernalia ( hook, line, and sinker) and clean up your plastic garbage as it does have negative affects on wildlife. Clean up your poop bags! There fairy - dog poop cleaner doesn't exist.
Once in a while you MAY, if you are fortunate enough, to spot a teeny-tiny sign that warns against high level contaminates in the water and the dangers to people, livestock, and domestic animals (your dog). Same goes for when the town dumps a bunch of chemicals in the lake for invasive species treatment. Check the website for levels. Around May or June Westboro dumps contaminates for water treatment for algae without any indication of such. This should be posted to make pet owners aware.
Communication that indicates unsafe water situations should be posted near the animal swimming areas.
A very nice outlet to nature.
The trails are lovely all year round. It is a peaceful place to walk, run, hybrid-bike. Lots of ticks in warm weather seasons and thaws in winter. Protect yourself and your animals.
Sadly, there are those that disrespect the lovely space leaving behind trash, broken glass, nasty cans, plastic drink containers, drug paraphernalia, and fishing hooks and line, along trails where dogs potentially roam. Broken glass is dangerous for your animals (obviously), and, after cans rust, another danger presents itself. Often broken glass and rusted, cracked cans become covered by dirt, grass, or leaves, again, to restate, heightening the dangers for animals walking along the trails.
Good for a cheap day some good views
Dog owners are in the habit of bagging their dog poop. Other dog owners are in the habit of bagging their dog poop and leaving it on the trail or throwing it on a branch. Hunters are there when they are not supposed to, making it unsafe for people, children, horses and dogs. Yes, there are several hunting seasons that run parallel depending. Still, hunting and little/big brown / black dogs don't mix. Hunters have been spotted within the 300 feet from a structure, and near the parking lots which is where the dog people are, so beware. Having a dog, horse, or person chucked by a stray bullet ---.
Best place to hangout on weekends.
Lake Chauncy is right on a main road so it made me a little skeptical, but the trails going around the lake were actually really nice and the water was very clean and the beach seemed in good condition - even when it was after the season had officially ended. I think this would be a great local place to go by yourself or with family.
People who are scared of dogs or horses should think twice about walking the trails; this is a friendly dog and horse space. There are even Meet-Ups with wonderful dog owner groups and families who walk their horses here.
